Tribal Engagement

Setting a new standard for Colorado Parks & Wildlife.

We want to invite meaningful contributions from Tribal Communities in a manner that goes beyond superficial acknowledgements.

While it is not mandatory for state agencies to consult with Tribes on projects in Colorado, it became clear from the very beginning of Fishers Peak State Park development that integrating Indigenous perspectives and ecological knowledge into the park was paramount to its success.

Let’s Dream Big Together

Creating a sense of shared ownership, mutual respect, and true partnership through proactive engagement and transparent communication can allow for an interweaving of knowledge, synthesizing innovative solutions that are both respectful of Tribal heritage and aligned with modern sustainability goals.

Colorado has never approached developing a state park in this way,
but this new direction currently has full support at every level.

We don’t want to let an opportunity like this go to waste and we firmly believe that with the help of Tribes, it wont!
